Our Commitment

At CMHA Windsor-Essex County Branch, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism (EDIA-R) are fundamental to how we deliver services, support staff, engage communities, and advance health equity. We recognize that systemic barriers, discrimination, historical trauma, and inequitable access to resources impact health and wellness outcomes for many individuals and communities.

Through ongoing learning, accountability, collaboration, and action, we are committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, culturally safe, and equitable environment where staff, clients, patients, care partners, and community members feel seen, heard, valued, and empowered.

Our Guiding Principles

Our EDIA-R work is guided by five core principles:

Lived Experience Leadership

We recognize the expertise of individuals with lived and living experience and are committed to meaningful engagement, co-design, and shared decision-making that informs our programs, services, and organizational priorities.

Cultural Safety and Humility

We strive to create environments where people can bring their whole selves and feel respected, valued, and safe. This requires ongoing learning, self-reflection, and a willingness to acknowledge and address harm when it occurs.

Data-Informed Action

We use evidence, demographic data, and measurable outcomes to identify inequities, inform decision-making, and evaluate our progress toward creating more equitable systems and services.

Accountability and Transparency

We are committed to clear accountability structures, continuous improvement, and sharing our progress with staff, clients, patients, care partners, and community members.

Intersectionality

We recognize that individuals hold multiple identities that shape their experiences and opportunities. Our work seeks to address inequities in ways that acknowledge and respond to this complexity.
