Join us for Suicide Awareness Month: September 2023

What is Suicide Awareness Month?

The Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch (CMHA-WECB) in partnership with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) leads an annual campaign to bring awareness about mental health promotion and suicide prevention. We have gathered a large network of community partners to plan and organize the eighth annual Suicide Awareness Month campaign. Events will occur throughout the month of September (2023 Calendar of Events). The Suicide Awareness Month planning group includes representatives from all sectors including Workplace, Health Services, Community, School Boards, and Post-Secondary Institutions.

A few years ago we made the conscious decision to remove the word “Prevention” from the name. Family members and friends are often very involved in their loved one’s mental health journey and have done everything they can to prevent a death by suicide. Sadly, that is not always possible. Those that have lost loved ones to suicide also struggle with the premise that suicides are preventable, when this is not always the case.
