Safe Beds Program
The Safe Beds Program is a voluntary residential program diverting individuals experiencing homelessness and a mental health and/or addiction crisis from the justice system, incarceration, and unnecessary hospitalization by providing short-term accommodations and crisis support.
Individuals entering the Safe Beds Program will work with an Addiction Specialist, Peer Support Worker, and Residential Support Workers to stabilize the initial crisis, develop goals regarding mental health, addiction, and housing, and connect to community supports to ensure continued care after Safe Beds.
Services:
- Crisis stabilization and support
- Addiction and mental health support and education
- Referrals, service navigation, and advocacy
- Life skills and activities of daily living support and education
Eligibility:
- 16 years of age or older
- Direct contact with police and/or police-based mental health crisis team
- Experiencing homelessness
- Individuals who can be safely supported in the community and who are not at risk of harming themselves or others
Referrals:
Referrals are required by police and police-based response teams in Windsor-Essex County.
