EVENT: Detroit Free Press Marathon
Commitment is not a sprint, it’s a marathon.
Commitment to yourself, commitment to a goal, commitment to a cause.
Rose lost her son John in 2007. Running became a way to help heal her loss. In 2009, she petitioned to have the CMHA-WECB as the exclusive Canadian charity partner of the Detroit Free Press Marathon. Since then, Rose and runners just like her have been raising funds on behalf of CMHA-WECB, for a program near and dear to Rose’s heart – our Bereavement Program.
This specialized program offers educational seminars on the grieving process, enhancing emotional wellness, and parenting your child through grief. Loss specific peer support groups are also available – of which Rose became a co-facilitator in 2011, helping others navigate their loss journey. Individuals at risk of developing complex grief, or who have experienced the traumatic death of a loved one, are also able to seek one-on-one counselling.
It is because of events like the Detroit Free Press Marathon and people like Rose, that funding is received to help sustain this important program – a program that receives minimal government funding and yet helps hundreds of children and adults each year.
